Carl Edward Sagan (English pronunciation: /ˈseɪɡən/) (November 9, 1934 – December 20, 1996) was an American astronomer, astrophysicist, author, cosmologist, and highly successful popularizer of astronomy, astrophysics and other natural sciences. During his lifetime, he published more than 600 scientific papers and popular articles and was author, co-author, or editor of more than 20 books. In his works, he advocated skeptical inquiry and the scientific method. He pioneered exobiology and promoted the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI). Sagan became world-famous for his popular science books and for the award-winning 1980 television series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, which he narrated and co-wrote. A book to accompany the program was also published. Sagan also wrote the novel Contact, the basis for the 1997 film of the same name. From Wikipedia under the

Let's pretend, for a bit, that you could trade one living person for a dead one, and the trade you're beng offered right now is to give up Richard Dawkins to get back Carl Sagan. Would you snuff ol' Ritchie to get back Carlitorino? Asked by AndiGravity - Thu Jan 29 05:22:08 2009 - - 7 Answers - 1 Comments A. No. Dawkins may be arrogant in his atheism (where I disagree with him), but he's a damn good biologist (and writer). But I'll gladly trade a few wannabe scientists like Kent Hovind, Ken Ham, and William Dembski (but I'll keep Michael Behe, who at least knows *something* about science). I'll even throw in Ben Stein and Kirk Cameron for free ... they don't know anything about science, but as they are both "brilliant" comic actors, they most be worth *something* ... maybe a 'scientist to be named later.' Answered by secretsauce - Thu Jan 29 11:33:21 2009 I'm a Carl Sagan fan, what are some audio books that I might engoy? Q. What are the names of audio books that Sagan has voiced? I would also like to listen to some audio books that deal with cosmology, evolution, atheism, philosophy, and other similar subjects. I do not want someone screaming and preaching at me. I'm a Sagan fan for a reason. I don't want anything scary, I usually try to sleep to these books. Thanks in advance for all positive input. Dr. Stephen Jay Gould - Recently unfortunately passed away. Outstanding essays on everything from his specialty (evolution and biology) to baseball - and how they can be compared. Really good stuff, not abrasive. 2. Dr. Richard P. Feynman - A brilliant (Nobel laureate) physicist who could describe his thoughts clearly and who had a knack for living (and even dying) with a sense of humor. His book "Surely You're Joking, Mr Feynman" is a must read for anyone who enjoys science. 3. Dr. Jacob Bronowski - His Ascent of Man series for the BBC was the precursor and formed the pattern for the later Cosmos series. Q. In the early 80's I watched the wonderfull series Cosmos hosted by astronomer Carl Sagan. He was definatley against the idea of aliens visiting our planet and gently mocked those that claimed they had experienced such things. Yet, to the end of his life he did interviews where he actually was saying that he thought we were being visited. I saw the interviews on you tube. He was a well respected astronomer, so what made hime change? Asked by purplepeace59 - Sat Aug 25 07:50:28 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Could be the old saying. "You live and Learn". As a scientist he would have approached the question with an open mind and over the years modified his opinion to go along with the facts as he thought he had observed them.
